Wedge-tailed Green Pigeon, Damthang, Sikkim |
A few of us went to Sikkim during the last half of September 2016 to do some monsoon birdwatching. In the normal course this is the off season for bird watchers as the weather is completely unsuitable for that activity. This is especially true for birding spots in the Eastern Himalayas. But you gain nothing by not trying your luck - and try our luck we did ending up with a satisfying bird list over the course of 5 days.
Here are a few examples of birds that we met on the trip
Rusty-cheeked Scimitar Babbler, Ravangla |
Brown Bullfinch |
Whiskered Yuhina (immature), Deu |
Yellow-naped Tit Rufous-bellied Niltava |
Green-billed Malkoha, Mongpong |
Red-faced Liocichla, Ravangla |
Tickell's Thrush (immature), Ravangla |
Red-billed Leiothrix |
Grey-winged Blackbird (immature female), Ravangla |
Chestnut-bellied Rockthrush, near Namchi (high ISO shot) |
Grey Bushchat (female), Ravangla |
Rufous Sibia, Ravangla |
Rufous-capped Babbler, Ravangla |
Blue-capped Rock Thrush (immature), Char Dham |
